No one plans to experience dental pain. It can appear unexpectedly and interrupt your daily life.

At Herdsman Dental we make time available every day so that we can see you when you need us most. We have time for emergency and unplanned dental treatments within our schedules.

Before undergoing dental work our dentists will discuss with you the diagnosis leading to your visit. Treatment options along with costs of treatment will be discussed prior to the commencement of treatment. We also allocate time to commence treatment and relieve the discomfort you may have presented with.

The best way to prevent toothache, and an associated unplanned dental visit, is to establish and maintain healthy teeth and gums. This can achieved through regular home care (brushing and flossing your smile), and regular professional dental visits (us professionally removing plaque and calculus). Great home care, along with routine dental recalls to care for your smile, have been shown to maintain beautiful natural teeth, minimise offensive dental related odours, and cost you less over time.

Periodontal Care describes treatment to your gums. It is vital to have healthy gums to maintain healthy teeth. Healthy gums support healthy bone that surrounds your teeth. Healthy bone holds your teeth in place keeping them stable. Without healthy gums the system falls apart; tartar build up and bacterial activity leads to unhealthy gums and the loss of bone that supports teeth. Teeth loose their bony foundations.  This unhealthy state is Gum Disease or Periodontitis.

Periodontal Care can be delivered by a dentist, or hygienist – under the supervision of a dentist. If you have moderate to advanced gum disease you may be referred to a Periodontist (gum specialist) to facilitate care that maintains your teeth for as long as possible.  The aim is to return your gums back to a healthy state.

We aim for our clients to keep their teeth for life.  For this to be a reality professional care for teeth should start at a young age. We encourage visits to the dentist from the age of 1 years of age or when the first teeth erupt. This can be in the form of a simple ride in the chair and examination of teeth. It is important for positive experiences to be established with children and a relationship of trust built.  Coming to the dentist should be fun.

There are many ways whiten teeth. At Herdsman Dental the dentist will suggest a whitening system that would be best suited to you after examining your teeth.

We believe that all dentistry performed should be aesthetic and functional. Be it a small restoration in a back tooth, or a complete smile makeover the result should look natural and aesthetic but also be functional and long lasting.

Removal of wisdom teeth is a common dental procedure. Wisdom teeth pain, gum swelling and infection, tooth decay, or there is simply not enough room for the wisdom teeth to come through are all reasons to have wisdom teeth removed.

As part of a healthy check up the experienced dentists at Herdsman Dental will assess and discuss the issues around your wisdom teeth. If wisdom teeth are diagnosed as likely to lead to future issues, we recommend that they be removed before they even start to cause problems. The wisdom teeth can be removed safely and sedation can be organised when requested. Referral to a specialist oral surgeon can also be offered.

At Herdsman Dental teeth are restored with white composite resin restorations. We believe that the use of white filling materials provides the benefits of aesthetics, strength, similar wear resistance to natural enamel, and more conservative of tooth structure in comparison to silver fillings. If a restoration is extensive, recommendation to the further restoration with a porcelain crown/veneer may be made. The underlying white filling is maintained. Porcelain options provide the greatest aesthetics, strength and therefore longevity of treatments.

Whilst dentures may not be an option for many of us they still provide an aesthetic and functional method of restoring a smile for many people. At Herdsman Dental we are happy to assist our clients in the fitting of dentures. Be they partial or complete, acrylic or chrome dentures.

Implant dentistry is one method in restoring a single missing tooth or multiple missing teeth. Implants are titanium posts that are placed within the bone at the site of the missing tooth. Porcelain teeth are fixed onto the implant to give a highly aesthetic and functional result.

At Herdsman Dental we have undertaken further studies to place implants and restore implants. In some cases referral to a specialist surgeon may be indicated prior to returning to the practice for restoration of the implant.

Dental crown and bridgework can restore and enhance the appearance of your smile and restore the chewing function of your teeth.

Whether it is to rebuild severely worn teeth, cosmetic enhancement or to restore function where teeth are missing, the dentists at Herdsman Dental have the experience to evaluate and prepare dental crown and bridges to the highest of quality.

We work closely with a local dental ceramic technician to manufacture all ceramic and porcelain crowns and the more traditional porcelain fused to metal, and full gold crowns. Our laboratory creates teeth that are beautiful, natural and highly aesthetic. They are proud of their work and so are we.
